I’m happy to report that at seven months of age the puppies have adjusted well to their new homes.
Here are a few of the pics we’ve received. Click on the image to see a larger version of the photo.
The top left photo is Isabella when she was 8 weeks old. The top right photo is Prize at 9 weeks old.
From birth on, Prize has done everything on her own schedule and on her own terms.
She is smart, independent, curious and a bit willful – the perfect amalgamation of her momma and poppa.
It’s hard not to smile at the site of a floppy eared pup romping with sheer delight.
Over the course of 8 weeks Cowboy transformed from a “take no prisoners” ruffian into a curious, sensitive pup who loved retrieving.
J.J. giving the Tumbleson’s patio vine a run for its money – hoping he’ll tear up the field trial world when he turns into a big dog.
And an early morning retrieving session.
Of all the boys Wildcat became the newest version of his daddy . . . sensitive, smart, athletic and he likes his birds.
He’ll be living the dog nirvana dream with a wonderful family in southwestern Colorado.
Tiff loved her puppy bumper.
Tiger and Koda.
Husker wrestling with Cowboy.
Now that all the puppies have moved onto their new homes it’s time to wrap up the blog.
To celebrate we’ll post one favorite picture of each pup.
Here’s a classic of Coco. She is a carbon copy of her grandmother, FC-AFC Maccabees First Candle.
Our last pup has been sold and will head to his new home on 40 acres next week. We’ll relish these last few days with him.
Up next . . . seven weeks of our favorite puppy pictures.
This big guy is still available for the right home. He has a lot of drive, solid conformation and loves diving to the bumper.
I first met the Tumbleson’s almost 24 years ago when Kelly was pregnant with our daughter Rachel. Since then, Todd and I have spent a lot of time together chasing pheasants, ducks and geese here in the midwest. Like me, the Tumbleson’s are dog people through and through. Neither of our homes has been without a retriever in it for close to thirty years now.
Knowing I would have to leave in June for work in North Dakota, the Tumbleson’s agreed to help me raise the litter. They doted on Isabella as if she was their own and have given each of the pups their complete love from the moment they were born.
Beginning this Thursday our beautiful puppies will begin dispersing to their new homes. I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Todd, Mindy, Connor, Ben and Lindsay for all of the time, attention and care they have showered upon the puppies.
And a special shout out goes to Koda (seated) and Kirby . . . you guys have been amazing!

It all started out so simply. A colored velcro collar to identify and keep track of each puppy’s progress.
A few days after the pups were born Anastasia remarked that the orange collar black male was wearing the color of her college alma mater, the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The next day the Tumbleson kids noted that all the boys in the litter were coincidentally sporting the colors from universities in our area’s major athletic conference.
Welcome to Big 12 country.
No matter what your favorite sport is – our boys are proudly wearing your colors.
We reluctantly pardoned and included two original conference members who flew the coop for greener pastures a couple of years ago: Nebraska and Mizzou.
Here now are the five burly boys from the gridirons of the midwestern flatlands.
First born in the litter is none other than the blue collar wonder: Jayhawk, now reverently referred to as: J.J.
He began life as a middle linebacker, but has since been converted into a fleet-footed wide receiver. From Big Red country wearing the famed red collar meet: Husker.
Next comes that yellow collar ruffian: Tiger. It’s true, we still like you Mizzou.
Entering the rodeo from chute number four and wearing the orange collar is: Cowboy. The toughest, baddest dude you’ll ever wrangle.
Lastly we present the extremely agile and lightening quick: Wildcat. Proud wearer of the famed purple collar.
It’s a great group of boys. We like them a lot and think you will too!
We gave the entire litter nicknames within the first few days of birth, but until now neglected to share those with you.
First up are the three lovely ladies.
In the silver collar: Tiffany.
In the brown collar: Coco.
And last, but not at all least.
In the black collar: Prize.
Coming tomorrow; it’s welcome to Big 12 country and the five burly beasts.
